Plant Photograms

Photograms are created in the darkroom without using camera or film. Since 1997, I have been creating and exhibiting unique sepia-toned gelatin silver photograms of plant forms. Photograms are a way of preserving the artistry of nature. Plants (which I grow in my garden) and other materials, are placed directly on the photographic paper and exposed to light from an enlarger. The images are produced on fiber-based gelatin silver paper or on paper hand coated with a silver emulsion. They are developed in standard chemicals for black and white photography and sepia toned for color and permanence. Although the process can be repeated, each image is created individually, so no two arrangements of leaves, flowers, and stems will be alike.
